The Point Cup

Beginning with the 2000 contest, the Point Cup is awarded to the team finishing in first place at the annual WWSP World’s Largest Trivia Contest. The traveling trophy has panels along the base for the engraving of the winning team’s name. Jim Oliva and John Eckendorf present the Point CupEach year, the trophy will be presented to the winning team and the team’s name will be added to the trophy’s base.

Jim Oliva and John Eckendorf presented the trophy July 1 to CNOF: Being Bud Somerville during Stevens Point’s annual Riverfront Rendezvous festival. WWSP sponsored a remote broadcast from Pfiffner park Saturday when the trophy was presented.

CNOF celebrated by drinking cheap champagne from the cup. Like The Point Cup. Click for a larger picture.the winning teams of hockey’s Stanley Cup, the team plans to pass the trophy around this year so each team member has the trophy for about a week.

CNOF was given the trophy in April following the contest, but it was returned immediately to Jim Oliva for the engraving. On the left side panel of the wooden base, “2000 Being Bud Somerville” is etched. There is room on the base for an additional 23 or so team names (and presumably, 23 more contests).

Later in the afternoon, as the team continued to celebrate their win, theThe Point Cup showing engraving panel trophy fell apart (the silver cup was separated from the base). But the trophy was repaired later in the week.

The trophy will be returned prior to the next contest for presentation to the 2001 contest winner. With luck, the team may get to keep the trophy for at least another year.
