From the Stevens Point Journal April 7, 2008:

'Triviatown' available in Point for first time

By Shenandoah Sowash
Journal Staff

What's 85 minutes long, hard to find and can capture the attention of almost every Stevens Point resident? You have two songs to respond. The answer: "Triviatown."

At long last, the 2006 documentary exploring Point's Trivia tradition has a distributor and will be available beginning today during registration for the annual trivia contest "Trivia Invasion."

The DVD includes more than 100 minutes of bonus features including 22 minutes of footage of teams and events not shown in the final cut, deleted scenes and a directors' commentary by Patrick Cady and Brit McAdams.

Want to register?

Register your “Trivia Invasion” team from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today to Thursday or from noon to 6 p.m. Friday. Bring a representative from or your team to the radio station, 1101 Reserve St., and sign up.

"Some people were upset that they weren't in the final cut, so I think those people will be especially excited to check out the extra footage," said Brian Tamling, WWSP-90 FM sponsorship director.

Brian's wife, Sara, is helping spread the word on behalf of distributors Trivial Pictures and Media Targeting Associates.

The distributors wanted a local contact to talk up the film's release, Sara said. As a lifelong resident of Stevens Point, she said she is a good fit.

"The only thing the distributors knew about Wisconsin was the Green Bay Packers ... (They) thought the contest was about 300 people who played this little game. That's where I came into play," Sara said with a smile.

Ultimately, the film crew gathered more than 400 hours of footage.

"This film would have been impossible without the help of many, many wonderful people from the town of Stevens Point, and the film communities in Wisconsin and New York City," said Cady. "Without the help and support of all these contestants, we don't have a movie."

This week, Stevens Point will be the only place in the country to buy the film. After the contest ends Sunday, the film will be distributed throughout Wisconsin as well as local businesses.

"Triviatown" garnered the Best Film award at the Wisconsin Film Festival and the Best Documentary award at the Westchester Film Festival.
