Couple weds atop
Trivia float

It was a match made in
-- well, that all depends on what you think of Trivia.
Alex Mauer and Jenny
Asuquo were married Friday in a modest ceremony -- the bride and groom wore
t-shirts that said, simply, "bride" and "groom," respectively -- while
riding atop their float for the Trivia Parade. Family members sat on
foldable chairs crammed into the float's flattop trailer, and Ben Solberg, a
fellow Trivia team member, officiated, having been ordained through a Web
site earlier this year. He dressed as Elvis.

"They're really one of
the grooviest couples I know," said Blanca Martin, also a member of Team
Thicko, whose base of operations -- described by Mauer as the "war room" --
is on Division Street. "They're so down-to-earth. I'm really happy they're
getting married during their favorite time of year."
For Mauer and Asuquo,
the wedding was simply a natural step in a six-year courtship that began
with the marriage of two separate Trivia teams, one of which was named
"Don't Pee on the Electric Fence," and the other whose name nobody seems to
remember.
"It just kind of
seemed like the right thing to do," said Mauer, 26. "We've been really
hard-core into Trivia and it just kind of seemed fitting...we didn't really
ever consider any alternatives."
"It's ...
interesting," said Cathy Mauer, Alex's mother, after a pause. "I would never
have expected anything else."
Another pause, then a
laugh.
"Well, maybe something
else."
Asked whether the
mobile ceremony constituted her "dream wedding," Asuquo, 26, smiled.
"Now it's my dream
wedding," she said, "I've been dreaming about it for months."
Attendees of the
ceremony planned on taking an hour respite before plunging into a 54-hour
Trivia reception. One team member was expected to bake a cake.
"If (she doesn't bake
the cake,)" predicted Asuquo as she and Mauer dressed the float with
streamers before the parade, "we're having chips and pizza."
"Wedding chips and
pizza," said Mauer, correcting his fiancee.
During the parade, the
wedding trailer followed a pickup truck freighted with a string quartet. At
the insistence of the wedding party, the bride and groom kissed every time
the parade turned a corner.
"Alex is a very nice
person -- I've very excited to marry him," said Asuquo. "I'm sure he would
say the exact same thing about me. You can quote him on that."
