Trivia Team Insider
Team Name: Ah-Bin Hypmotized, submitted by Dan Rayburn
How the team got its name: Ah-Bin Hypmotized was formed by a bunch of
college guys living in a house on Clark Street in 1986. Life was simple
then. We went to school (sometimes), came home and ate (mass quantities),
studied (very little) and watched "Late Night with David
Letterman" religiously before crashing for the evening. We liked it
when Letterman would look into the camera with his eyes and would mutter,
"Ah-bin Hypmotized."
How many players are on the team: Our trivia team has around 20 members.
Many of them come in and out throughout the contest, but a few die-hards are
there the whole weekend and find a place to sleep on the floor where
everyone can trip over them. They usually arise in the middle of a dead
sleep to answer a question their subconscious has somehow told them to wake
up and answer. It happens all the time.
How long they've played: 18 years
The highest the team has placed: 8th
Their most-prized reference tool: We take many notes throughout the year.
This year alone, we have watched around 120 movies and taken notes on
several TV and sporting events. We keep all our notes on a computer so they
are readily accessible.
Team traditions: The best part of Trivia is just getting together and seeing
everyone again and enjoying a great weekend. We don't criticize other
members' guesses, no matter how lame. We bring as many resources and food to
Trivia as possible. And by no means, we do not help or consult with other
teams.
High point of your team's career: Last year, our team finally reached No. 8
and we were awarded a trophy - a highlight of our almost 20-year existence.
Low point of your team's career: When we tossed between two answers and talk
ourselves out of our first answer, which always seems to be the right one to
begin with. It has caused arguments in the past, but as we get older, those
things don't matter as much to us as much as getting together and enjoying
the Trivia experience.
