consumes the city of 24,000 for one weekend each April. Grocery stores and pizza shops advertise specials and discounts targeted at Trivia players. Hotels welcome players with marquee messages and offer rooms with extra telephone lines. Almost everyone in town has tuned in to the contest at one time or another. Everyone knows someone who is playing the contest. A drive through the city neighborhoods will take you past banners on homes announcing the “headquarters” of some trivia team. Even the city police department relaxes the 'no parking on city streets overnight' rule during the contest to accommodate players jammed into homes. Approximately 7000 players are drawn to the city each year from outside Stevens Point, some who have been playing the contest since it began in 1969.
 

How the Contest is Played:

Starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, the first day of the contest, and continuing for 54 straight hours, questions are broadcast over the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point’s radio station WWSP (89.9). Eight questions are asked each hour (sometimes ten questions) and teams usually have the duration of two songs to call in with the correct answer.

Team standings and point values are read twice during the weekend resulting in two hours where only four questions are asked. Teams are allowed only one call and only one guess for each question.
